Shmuel Halevi HURWITZ of Vievis 1 2
General Notes: The Hurwitzes or Horowitzes come from the town of Horovice near Prague beginning sometime after the expulsion from Spain in 1492. 3 Research Notes: Shmuel was a descendant of Ishiah Halevi Hurwitz, the Shelo Hakodesh, also known as Yeshayah Halevi Hurwitz, the Sh'loh Hakodosh (1565-1630), author of "The Two Tablets of the Law" ("Sh'lah Shnei Luchot Ha'brit") and "Parshat Vayeishev." Shlomo Gurevich's "Horowitz...History of a Great Family" contains the antecedents of Yeshayah Halevi Hurwitz back to Rabbi Shlomo Halevi of Spain (c. late 10th-early 11th Century) with a break between the two sons of Rabbi Pinchas Halevi of Barcelona and R Yosef Halevi, the father of three brothers from Horovice and Prague. 2 4 5 Noted events in his life were: 1.
