  Research Notes:

Barnet's death certificate has September 15, 1857, for date of birth. His age is given as 70, but his death in November of 1928 would have made him 71. This appears to be a clerical error. The English side of his tombstone has September, 1854. The census of 1910 has him as 57 on April 29, agreeing relatively well with the tombstone. However, there is no indication in the All Lithuania Database of his mother being married or of Borukh himself on May 26 of 1858 in Ukmerge, Ukmerge. But there is a notation that Borukh's great-grandfather, Borukh Gefen, had died in 1854, hence raising the possibility that he was named after his recently deceased ancestor. His passport application of 1921 has him born on January 1, 1855. None of this paints a consistent picture of the early years of Barnet Cooper.

And what does the Hebrew side of Barnett's tombstone have to tell us? Thanks to Jonny Berkley, we have the following:

The date of death is identical with the English side except for an obvious result of the fact that the Jewish day begins at sundown. But the date of birth is off by almost a solar year.

• Embarkation, Jul 29, 1892, Hamburg. ¹² "Boruch Kuper" sailed on the SS Coblenz under the British flag. His destination was Leith, the port of Edinburgh, Scotland, and, indirectly, New York. He changed ships after traveling from Edinburgh to Glasgow. His age is given as 37.

• Immigration, Aug 15, 1892, Ellis Island, New York. ^{9 16} "Boruch Kuper" arrived aboard the SS Furnessia out of Glasgow, Scotland, 17 days after he left Hamburg. His age is given as 27 and his last residence as Hamburg. His nationality is listed as "Russia/Pol" and his occupation as laborer.

Barnet married Anne Clair GEFFEN, daughter of Aria Tsvi GEFEN and Shifra KIER, in 1873 in Lithuania.¹ (Anne Clair GEFFEN was born in 1855 in Russia ^{1 22} and died on Dec 5, 1916 in Sioux City, Iowa ^{7 11}.)

Barnet next married Goldie, daughter of UNKNOWN and Unknown, in 1920 in Palestine, British Empire.^{2 3} (Goldie was born in 1887 in Jerusalem, Ottoman Empire ^{3 9}.)
