The census of 1920 has Samuel's immigration as 1901. His citizenship papers were in process. It has his surname as "Gaffen."

The WWI draft registration for Samuel "Gaffan" has his birth on March 30, 1884. ^{1 4}

Samuel married Minnie GOLDEN, daughter of GOLDEN and Unknown, before 1918.^{1 2} (Minnie GOLDEN was born in 1894 in Russia ¹ and died on Oct 29, 1930 in Chicago ^{6 7}.)
