  General Notes:

Nathan was Isaac Franklin's nephew. He lost a leg in later life, which he ascribed to having to carry a Russian army officer across the Dnieper River. 1 2

  Research Notes:

The census of 1900 has Feb, 1878, as date of birth. It has his immigration as 1895.

The SSDI has Nathan's birth as December 5, 1878 and the census of 1920 has Nathan's age as 41. In line with this, Myrian Diamond has Nathan's birth on the third candle of Hanukkah, 1878. This would have been the year 5639 in the Hebrew calendar. The civil date would have been December 23, 1878. The date given in the SSDI and on Nathan's SS-5 appears to have been computed using a Hebrew calendar for the year 1942, the year of its filing. 27 Kislev, 1942, was December 6, and the previous evening, when the religious day would have begun in the Hebrew calendar, was the 5th. Nathan's SS-5 has 1879 for year of birth, apparently incorrectly. The Locust point immigration record has Nathan's age as 16 on September 10, 1895, which is also consistent with the above data, although the Baltimore entry of the census of 1900 has Nathan born in December of 1879. Nathan's WWI draft registration has his birth on December 8, 1878. The WWII draft registration has December 5, 1879.

The census of 1930 has Nathan's immigration as 1892. 1 2 6 8 9 10 11
