Israel was a wealthy landowner in Yagorlik, Ukraine. He moved to Tiraspol in 1938.

None of this family who ended their days at Babi Yar "died" in the normal sense of the word. They were, in fact, murdered by the Nazies with the collaboration of the Ukrainian militia.
