General Notes: Herbert would appear to have died sometime after the initial naval engagement of the 23rd through the 26th of October, 1944, i.e., the Battle of Leyte Gulf, when MacArthur began his retaking of the Philippines with an attack against the Japanese land forces on Leyte Island. He was a member of Company C, 381st Infantry Division. Noted events in his life were: 1. Residence, Jan 29, 1920, Third Street, Ramona, S Dak. 2 2. Residence, Apr 2, 1930, 203 1/2 N. Egan Ave., Madison, South Dak. 4 3. Graduation, 1935, Madison High School, Ramona, S Dak. 1 4. Military Service, World War II, Pacific Theater. 5 Herbert was a private. His serial number was 37586107. |
